Unlucky sprinter King Pulse has worked strongly as he prepares for Saturday’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Royal Randwick.
The Canny Lad gelding was the talk of the town at trackwork, in which he worked with Graeme Begg’s Doncaster hope Ilovethiscity.
King Pulse led out initially with Ilovethiscity two lengths behind.
However, while they were side by side at the 400m mark, King Pulse zipped away to win easily.
The Michael Moroney-trained galloper came from nowhere in 2009 to run second in a photo in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) behind Headway – at just his third race start.
First up last year, he ran fourth behind Wanted in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) but he seriously injured a shoulder when a freak storm hit Flemington following the race.
A long period of rehabilitation saw him fit to return in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) in February, where he finished seventh to Black Caviar.
He once again ran in the Newmarket Handicap, but could only managed fifth.
