All Godolphin’s enigmatic Gr 1 winning star KEMENTARI (Lonhro – Yavanna) has to do on Saturday, is run and he will become part of Australian racing folk lore – and history.
He’s the toppie for the $1million Magic Millions Cup over 1400m. He is a heavily backed $5 chance and looks the one to beat.
It would roar him over $3million in prize money should he land the cash.
But, that’s only part of his history-making week.
No horse in the history of Australian racing has EVER raced during the Magic Millions carnival, while one of his babies was sold at the same carnival!
Today, at the wildly successful and popular Magic Millions Yearling sale, a daughter of Kementari from the Encosta de Lago mare MITHILA, went under the hammer.
And she fetched a whopping $325,000 falling to the bid of Denise Martin for Star Thoroughbreds syndication.
Yep, you read it all correctly.
Kementari’s oldest offspring, a yearling half-sister to stakes winner Madam Legend (I Am Invincible) was sold just two days before her father races in a $1million race across the road.
She could, if it was allowed, go to a stall and watch her old man run.
Thus far Kementari has won $2.5million in prize money.
And how this all came about is from his one and only time at stud. The now gelded star galloper, once wasn’t, and he covered 54 mares in 2019.
Only six were brought into this world and one of them sadly died as a baby.
So there are just five offspring by Kementari in this world and when it was shown his fertility rate was diabolically poor, it was decided to geld him.
Meaning this tiny crop of five, will be the ONLY ones by him to ever be part of the thoroughbred world.
Kementari is a Gr 1 winner back in 2019 of the Randwick Guineas, as well as five other stakes races including the Gr 2 Hobartville.
His older brother, TELPERION, also won at stakes level so the pedigree into this yearling filly is powerful and it should go on and be a star athlete.
She too is now part of Australian racing history.
