Jamie Kah is about to become the first jockey to reach 100 wins in the metropolitan area of Melbourne

Jamie Kah is expected to etched her name in the history books by becoming the first jockey to notch 100 wins in a season in the metropolitan area of Victoria.

Brett Prebble came close ending the 1999-2000 season with 99-½ wins off fewer city meetings and at the start of the 2011-12 season, Racing Victoria amended the rules to include any dead-heat victories as a ‘whole’ win.

No jockey has come close and Kah only needs one winner after a double at Flemington last Saturday left her stranded on 99 wins.

The milestone is expected at Sandown on Wednesday where Kah is rated $1.10 to land that winner.

Kah is booked for rides in all eight races on Wednesday’s card with TAB expecting her to crack the ton early in the program where her first four rides are either favourite or second favourite.

Gradually her mounts get longer, although her ‘roughest’ is only a $7 chance in early betting.

Prebble says it will be a great achievement when Kah becomes the first to achieve the mark, although he feels ‘robbed’ left half-a-win short.

Prior to leaving for a long and successful stint in Hong Kong, Prebble pointed out the main stables were much smaller than those of today.

“When I was stable rider for David Hall, he had 50 horses in work and I was riding for John Meagher as well,” Prebble told RSN.

“Now the leading stables have 200 or 300 horses and Jamie’s got the pick of all yards.

“The little trainer coming over from Adelaide that has been well-prepared for a race, that has the right rating, she gets on them.

“They’re $3 chances and she wins on them.

“She doesn’t make many mistakes and that’s going to constantly keep her winning races every day, getting on the right horse in the right race.”
