Connections of Newmarket Handicap winner Joliestar are delaying their decision on her potential participation in Saturday’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick.
The Chris Waller-trained mare’s start hinges on Sydney’s unpredictable weather, with no risks being taken on the track conditions.
Cambridge Stud’s Henry Plumptre said the team would prefer to give Joliestar one more run before a spell and target the spring.
“It would be nice to give her one more run before we tip her out for a spell and then come back for the spring,” said Cambridge Stud chief executive Henry Plumptre.
“We want a horse for next season and we don’t want her to get beaten by running her on a track that she might finish fifth or sixth on, she’s too good for that.”
Joliestar, who triumphed in last year’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas, resumed this season with a third in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes before a dominant win in the Newmarket Handicap.
Plumptre remains hopeful for improved conditions.
Meanwhile, Snazzytavi, a standout daughter of Tavistock, is continuing treatment for laminitis following minor surgery earlier this week.
