Ciaron Maher’s initial reaction after Jimmysstar’s All Aged Stakes win on Saturday was to marvel at a preparation that has seen the sprinter turn his profile from one of a shaky reputation to taking on four group one races and winning two of them.
The party for connections may not be over yet as the possibility of a start in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on June 1 is on the table.
“It is a big ‘if’ though,” Maher’s assistant trainer Jack Turnbull said.
“The main thing is that he’s come through the run really well.”
“To come back, win an Oakleigh Plate and an All Aged Stakes, and place in a William Reid is fantastic and he has probably been the revelation of stable apart from Light Infantry Man winning the Australian Cup.”
Jimmysstar’s win in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick posted a Racing and Sports rating of 122.
“He’s in really good form but it is tricky as he has got three or four paths to take which hasn’t been confirmed yet,” Turnbull added of the possible route toward more success come springtime.
“If not, we could rest him and come back for an Everest preparation which could be a first-up run on The Shorts.”
Giga Kick is the futures market favourite with betting sites for the Kingsford Smith Cup at $4.50 with Jimmysstarr on the second line of betting at $6.
