Jimmy Orman rode his name into the record books at Eagle Farm today when he became the youngest jockey to ride one hundred metropolitan winners in a season in Queensland.
Orman thus joins Chris Munce and Jeff Lloyd in an elite club of only three members in which each rider has their own distinction … Munce being the first to achieve that feat, Lloyd the first to ride the hundred winners in a season twice and now Orman, as the youngest to climb that peak.
Orman needed two winners to reach the century going inti the Eagle Farm meeting … and he left his options open to securing that landmark win on the day by striking as early as the third race which he took out in confident fashion on the Natalie McCall trained first-timer Already a star.
But, with a touch of theatre, Orman waited until the last race to seal the deal and he did that in a pulsating three way go, a finish which needed a photograph to confirm that Orman had indeed pushed Kronenbourg’s head down when it mattered most to secure the win by the narrowest of margins.
