Champion jockey Jim Cassidy will make a return to race riding to partner Ringerdingding in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in hope of beating Queen of the turf Winx.
Jim Cassidy has been talking about making a return to racing for the past few months and connections of Group Two winner Ringerdingding think the two will be an unstoppable partnership and can be the first to beat Champion mare Winx in four years in what is likely to be her farewell race.
“Myself and the other connections of Ringerdingding were keen to head to the Queen Elizabeth as it was unlikely the gelding will get a start in the Doncaster Mile this weekend and the thought process was the only way to beat the Queen ‘Winx’ is by using the ‘King’ and we are excited to have made the booking”
“We had read that Pumper was keen to make a comeback so we got in touch and he was keen to take the ride”
‘We are well aware he hasn’t ridden in close to four years but he has been doing his own training in the background and as he would put it Ring-a-ding-ding, Pumper’s the king! so we have full confidence in him to give the horse the perfect steer’ the managing owner of Ringerdingding said.
Jim ‘Pumper’ Cassidy had his last ride at Flemington on VRC Oaks day in 2015 and is one of only seven jockeys to have won the four big races of the Australian turf, the Melbourne Cup, the Caulfield Cup, the Cox Plate and Golden Slipper.
Cassidy has not committed to any further rides following the booking and will more or less use it as a test as he continues to contemplate a full time return to race riding.
Ringerdingding is currently a $51 shot in Queen Elizabeth Stakes odds with Winx stifling the betting as the $1.10 favourite.
