A vintage ride from Yutaka Take has secured Meisho Tabaru a berth in the Cox Plate after taking out Sunday’s Group 1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) at Hanshin Racecourse in Japan.
The 56-year-old legend of Japanese racing produced a flawless front-running ride aboard the $11.40 chance, guiding the Mamoru Ishibashi-trained galloper to a strong win and outlasting all challengers to the line.
It marked Take’s fifth win in the prestigious race and his incredible 84th Group 1 success under the Japan Racing Association banner.
As a result of the victory, the Moonee Valley Racing Club has extended a subsidised invitation to Meisho Tabaru’s connections for the 2025 edition of Australia’s premier weight-for-age contest—the Cox Plate. This year’s running will be the final time the iconic race is held at Moonee Valley in its current form.
