Star jockey Jamie Kah has her sights set on riding the highly regarded colt Broadsiding in this year’s Cox Plate. Kah rode the Godolphin colt to a dominant victory in the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm in June and now hopes to reunite with him for the prestigious race.
Kah is eager to secure the mount for the Cox Plate, a race she has long aspired to win. As a three-year-old, Broadsiding would carry just 49.5kg, requiring a lightweight rider. Kah humorously acknowledged the challenge, saying, “I’d have to stop eating now…but that’s just my dream race to win.”
Broadsiding, trained by James Cummings, is currently fourth in Ladbrokes Cox Plate odds at $12 with betting apps. Although James McDonald has been his regular jockey, Kah’s success with him in the Sires’ Produce Stakes gives her a strong claim for the ride.
Kah, who is back in winning form after last year’s injury setback, is determined to make a significant impact this Spring Carnival. “I really want to have a proper crack at it this spring and hopefully tick off one of those majors,” she said.
Kah’s pursuit of the Cox Plate ride on Broadsiding not only underscores her ambition but also adds excitement to this year’s race as she aims to fulfil a career dream.
