Isorich is set for the 24th start of his preparation but trainer Wayne Seelin insists he is just doing what comes naturally.
The gelding has raced on nine different NSW tracks in his five-year-old season and had at least one start in every month since August except January.
Isorich will be on a one-week back-up from winning at Rosehill when he looks for a third consecutive win in the TAB Rewards Handicap at Canterbury on Saturday.
Seelin was Isorich’s owner, trainer and strapper when he won last start – a rare trifecta at a Sydney track.
“Not many people do all that then put their horse on the truck and drive it to the races, but that’s just what I do,” Seelin said.
“It’s been good to me so far.”
Seelin doesn’t believe Isorich is tougher than any other horse.
His training philosophy revolves around letting horses live natural lives on his property near Wyong and getting value for money by racing them whenever sound.
“Mine all live outside just as horses should live,” Seelin said.
“Apart from an hour a day they’re spelling anyway.”
He doesn’t believe in extensive galloping between runs.
The horses do their work at the races.
“Why waste your time galloping at home on sand when you can put a lighter fella on in the races and just let him gallop there?” Seelin said.
Seelin was looking through the book at a Scone horse sale when he noticed Isorich, then Lot two, and wrote a note next to him: “won’t be able to afford him so don’t bother”.
As Lot two went through the sale ring only a small crowd assembled and bidding stalled at $3000.
“I’ve done a 100-metre dash and just started bidding,” Seelin said.
“I got him for $7500 then went home – it was nice easy day for me.”
After his latest victory Isorich has won more than $220,000 for Seelin, who owns him with his father and their mate Peter Watson.
Saturday will bring his long preparation to an end, marking the start of six-week holiday for the horse and a five-day break for the trainer.
“It’s my annual holiday which he’s paid for so I’m not complaining,” Seelin said.
