The trainers of Prince Tycoon are hopeful a delay in debuting the colt will lead to a bigger race interstate.

Cranbourne trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are considering a trip north for a rich two-year-old race with Prince Tycoon.

But first the colt has to make a winning debut in the Next Payments Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday to warrant a trip to Queensland.

The $1 million Magic Millions National 2YO Classic (1000m) at the Gold Coast on May 23 is under consideration for the son of Written Tycoon.

Prince Tycoon had been down to run in a race at Caulfield Heath on Wednesday but was withdrawn due to a poor barrier draw.

On Saturday Prince Tycoon has barrier two while he will also be racing for just shy of an extra $100,000 in prize money.

Young doubted whether Prince Tycoon would have defeated Frostnip who showed great speed to lead throughout over the 1000m journey on Wednesday.

“He had a wide gate, and we just knew he would have to work hard to get there,” Young said.

“The way it turned out, I don’t know if he would have got close to that winner that was pretty sharp.

“He’s got a good barrier on Saturday, and there’s a little more prize money as we’ve got aspirations of that $1 million Magic Millions two-year-old race that is on at the Gold Coast on May 23.

“He wouldn’t have got enough prize money, even if had won on Wednesday, so we thought we would go this way.”

With three scratchings already from Saturday’s race – Brave Design, Green Spaces and Salty Pearl – all engaged in interstate assignments, Prince Tycoon has seven rivals of which four are also first starters.

“He’s a nice horse, a cheap buy at Magic Millions,” Young said.

“He’s trialled up well and has a pretty good motor under the hood.”

Daniel Moor, who partnered the colt in his jump-out victory at Cranbourne on April 28, has the ride on Saturday.
