I Wish I Win is set to race over 1500 metres for the first time in almost two-and-a-half years.
Co-owner and trainer Peter Moody confirmed the gelding’s next likely race is the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill next month.
Moody reported that the six-year-old has recovered well from his first-up run in the G1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield last week.
He believes a four-week break before the Ryder Stakes will be beneficial.
“I haven’t set it in concrete, but I say four weeks to the Ryder, rising from 1400 to 1500 metres, sounds about right,” Moody told racing.com.
I Wish I Winβs last 1500m race at Rosehill saw him win the Golden Eagle in 2022, earning his owners $5.25 million.
Moody said the geldingβs first run since The Everest was solid, despite finishing third in the Futurity Stakes.
“We got beaten by two very good horses,” Moody added.
Looking ahead, the Ryder Stakes sets up a busy campaign, with the Doncaster Mile and TJ Smith Stakes both on the horizon.
