The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has confirmed that Hugh Bowman will take up a three-month riding contract in Hong Kong.
An official release by the HKJC reads (in part):
‘The Committee, by way of written resolution, resolved to grant a Club Jockey’s licence to Hugh Bowman for the period from 13 November 2022 to 12 February 2023, both dates inclusive.
‘Jockey Bowman has previously ridden with considerable success in Hong Kong, winning the G1 QEII Cup, G1 Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup, G1 Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup (all on Werther) as well as the G1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize on Lucky Bubbles.
‘Jockey Bowman is a two-time BMW Hong Kong Derby-winning rider having prevailed aboard Werther (2016) and Furore (2019), and also won the prestigious G1 Japan Cup in 2017 on Cheval Grand.
‘As of 4 November 2022, Jockey Bowman has totalled 2,540 career wins, including 29 wins and 71 minor placings from 322 rides in Hong Kong, at a winning strike rate of 16%.’
Bowman presence will obviously be a boost to the jockey ranks in Hong Kong which have been depleted in recent times with the return to Australia of Blake Shinn and the sidelining of star jockey Joao Moreira due to health issues.
