Much-travelled galloper Hot Saga confirmed the form of top mare Tinto when he scored a slogging win at Doomben.
Hot Saga ($4.40) won his 11th race when he held on to beat Ongoing Venture ($10) by a head with a half head to Uno Five ($10) in the Girls Day Out Handicap (2200m).
Trainer Jack Duncan said his confidence had been boosted by Hot Saga’s efforts behind Group One winner Tinto at his previous two starts.
“He came from last to be sixth behind Tinto in the Magic Millions Cup and he was also third behind her on Boxing Day,” Duncan said.
“Tinto is off to Group One races in Sydney and it was pretty good form for a race like this.”
Sunshine Coast-based Duncan has travelled Hot Saga all around the state and the gelding has also won at Cairns, Innisfail and Townsville in north Queensland.
“He will remain in the city and contest another one of these races in a fortnight,” Duncan said.
“They seem to have their turn at winning and hopefully it will be his turn a few more times.”
Jockey Jeff Lloyd was quickly back in the winners’ circle on Hot Saga at his first ride back from a suspension.
