American owner and breeder John Stewart continued his successful push into Australian racing with Cosmo Girl making a winning debut at Gosford on Thursday.
The two-year-old daughter of Coolmore’s exciting first-season sire Home Affairs produced a strong performance in the 1100m maiden, giving Stewart’s Resolute Racing operation another promising juvenile prospect.
Ridden positively by Tommy Berry, Cosmo Girl worked forward early to hold out the $3.20 favourite Tigroni for the lead before proving too strong in the run to the line.
Tigroni stuck on gamely for second, while King Of The Top finished more than a length away in third.
Cosmo Girl has already proven a lucrative investment story, having initially sold for $430,000 as a weanling at the Magic Millions National Sale before being purchased by Stewart for $625,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The victory provided Home Affairs with his 13th first-crop winner, further enhancing the stallion’s outstanding start to his stud career.
Home Affairs is also the sire of Golden Slipper winner Guest House, helping cement his position among Australia’s leading young stallions.
Stewart’s growing Australian racing team also includes the Ciaron Maher-trained Lady Catalina, who won earlier this year before placing at stakes level in the Woodlands Stakes at Scone.
The daughter of Written Tycoon is out of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Away Game.
Cosmo Girl is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Witherspoon, whose I Am Invincible yearling colt was purchased by Wyong trainer Sara Ryan for $250,000 at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
Witherspoon was acquired by Widden Stud and David Redvers for $1.2 million in 2024 and continues to build an impressive broodmare record.
The mare currently has a weanling colt by Zoustar and is back in foal to the champion sire.
With Home Affairs continuing to produce winners at an impressive rate, Cosmo Girl’s debut success suggests she could be another valuable addition to both Stewart’s racing operation and the stallion’s growing list of performers.
