Multiple Group-winning sprinter Here De Angels has been passed to return to the races with next month’s Listed Ramornie Handicap his first-up target.
The sprinter was barred last year due to his barrier manners and had to pass two barrier trial tests to the satisfaction of stewards to be allowed to resume his career.
The gelding was purchased for $82,000 by veterinarian John Crowley in November and transferred to his partner Wendy Roche who trains at Goulburn.
Here De Angels was cleared to return to the races after a trial at Goulburn on Monday.
“It’s quite a relief but I don’t know if it’s a huge relief because we still have got to wait and see what he does on race day,” Roche said.
“It’s a burden he’s always going to have. He’s always had slight issues at the gates but I’ve tried to sort out most of his problems. A race day protocol has to be followed and once that’s followed he should be fine.”
Roche said the Ramornie (1200m) at Grafton on July 13 would be the son of Dehere’s first-up assignment with Jeff Penza to ride.
“I think he’s still got the ability, he hasn’t lost any of it,” the trainer said.
“Black Piranha is going to the Ramornie and he’s been racing in Queensland so he is race fit. I have tried to use the barrier trials as a stepping stone in fitness (for Here De Angels).”
Here De Angels has won 11 of his 31 starts including six at stakes level.
