Golden Mile will return to work as a gelding after one injury-interrupted season at stud.

Just days before last year’s Caulfield Guineas winner Griff is put up for sale on Inglis Digital, the horse who precedes him on one of the most famed honour rolls in Australian racing has been announced as resuming his racing career.

Golden Mile, the 2022 Caulfield Guineas hero, has been gelded and will return to work with James Cummings.

“After missing much of the breeding season due to injury, Golden Mile will return to training as a gelding with Godolphin under head trainer James Cummings,” Godolphin said in a social media statement on Monday.

Golden Mile was retired after his third placing in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m), won by Antino, in May this year and was to have stood at Darley Victorian operation at a fee of $16,500 before injury interfered.

He became the first Group 1 winner for Astern, who also stands at Darley, when he won the 1600-metre Caulfield Guineas as favourite with betting sites.

It was one of five wins with other victories including The Callander-Presnell (1600m) and Theo Marks Quality (1300m) at Group 2 level.

It will not be the first time Godolphin has returned a Group 1 Guineas winner to work after issues at stud.

Kementari, the 2018 Randwick Guineas winner, also spent just one season at stud but was returned to work after experiencing fertility problems.

He had 30 of his 49 starts as a gelding, adding four more wins to his resume, including the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington and Hall Mark Stakes and Scahill Stakes at Group 3 level.
