The Golden Eagle will move to Randwick from 2025, marking a significant change to Sydney’s spring racing schedule.
Racing NSW confirmed the $10 million race, previously run at Rosehill, will now form part of a four-week carnival at Randwick alongside The Everest, Spring Champion Stakes and the Big Dance.
The move comes as the Golden Eagle continues to build international momentum. Eight of the top 12 runners from the 2024 edition have since won Group 1 races abroad.
The race remains NSW’s second biggest betting event, behind only The Everest.
Racing NSW Chair Saranne Cooke said the relocation would cement the race’s position as a headline act in the spring calendar.
“It will, like The Everest, become the young generation’s must-go event,” she said.
The race’s 1500m distance will stay in place, as will its $1 million charity component, which sees each horse partnered with a nominated cause.
