The completion of a course of chemotherapy has coincided with a Group 1 win in Adelaide for the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable with Glint Of Hope taking out the Australasian Oaks.
Young has been battling breast cancer in recent months and was at Morphettville on Saturday to greet Glint Of Hope back to scale.
“You don’t get Group 1 results without a good team behind you, and they’ve had my back over the last few months,” a joyous Young said.
“I’ve had a few health issues and it’s great to know they’re there.
“We’ve all got sisters and mothers and one in seven women get breast cancer, so it’s important to continue to do those things and me getting up and going to the stable has got me through those really hard times.”
To make Glint Of Hope’s win more special, Young had her mother, who she had not seen in four years, on course at Morphettville.
Ridden by Daniel Moor, Glint Of Hope ($13) scored by a head from Barb Raider ($10) with the $2.70 favourite My Whisper a long-head away third.
The Busuttin-Young and Moor team has been a successful combination after the trainers provided the jockey with his first Group 1 with Sierra Sue last year.
Moor returned from a Hong Kong stint earlier this month and the jockey has slotted straight back into winning mode for Busuttin and Young.
“We’re so glad he’s back from Hong Kong,” Young said.
“He rode her an absolute treat getting on the back of Jamie Kah and My Whisper and they were sort of the only instructions.
“He’s been a crucial part of our team of late and I couldn’t be happier.
Moor was thankful for the support Busuttin and Young after cutting short his Hong Kong stint because of strict restrictions due to COVID.
“Trent and Nat have been great supporters and they’ve stuck fat over the last 18 months,” he said.
