The Anthony and Sam Freedman stable will have dual representation as it looks to win a feature sprint race in Adelaide together for the first time.
Ameena and Point Barrow will line up for the father-and-son training team in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
The race has been a good one for the Freedman family since being elevated to Group 1 status in 2005 with Lee Freedman winning three straight, firstly with Alinghi (2005), then with Ellicorsam and Universal Queen while Anthony won with Shoals in 2018.
Sam Fredman is now looking to add his name to the honour roll and believes both sprinters have undeniable chances.
Point Barrow is the $4.60 favourite in early betting while Ameena is a $34 chance.
Freedman said Point Barrow had done nothing wrong this campaign and reminds him of Shoals who came with a strong finishing burst in her Sangster success.
“This has been a target race for the whole prep,” Freedman said.
“She’s coming in with the strongest form and due to circumstances in the Oakleigh Plate, we didn’t see her at her best, but she put up a great run last start.
“Maybe it wasn’t a great field, maybe she got the right run throughout, but they’ve still got to go out and do it.
“Shoals won this race a few years ago and had a better CV than Point Barrow but had a similar sort of racing style where she got back and swooped down the middle.
“I think for a three-year-old filly, I wouldn’t go swapping her with any that are in there.”
Point Barrow had been listed to jump-out at Sandown last week, but Freedman said she did not require a hard hit-out.
Instead, the filly worked at Mornington last Saturday on the course proper, a gallop that impressed her co-trainer.
Ameena heads to the Group 1 race first-up having not raced since the spring but goes in with four jump-outs under the belt.
The Freedman’s have followed a similar program to 12 months ago which saw Ameena finish second in the Sangster before going on to run fourth in The Goodwood.
“She’s going in fresh,” Freedman said.
“She ran brilliantly in the race last year fresh. She should have nearly won, so we’ll follow the same path.
“There is the Goodwood a fortnight later for both them if you have a hard luck story or they pull up well, so there is the option to do that, but I don’t think they will be pushing on to Queensland as this is very much a target race for them.”
