It was only a BM 85 at the Gold Coast, but one of the most impressive and certainly most popular wins was that of FISTICUFFS (Redoute’s Choice-Sucker Punch),
Under the soft and perfect hands of champion rider Glen Boss, the little fellow sat back then just unleashed an astonishing finishing burst down the outside to win with Bossy standing in the irons saluting as they crossed the line.
No doubt he felt the paradox.
Fisticuiffs, trained by Trent and Toby Edmonds, is owned by Tommy Raudonikus.
Yes THE Tom Raudonikus who once trained the NSW Blues at State Of Origin level. Yet, here he is winning a race in Queensland.
And, with a very loyal Maroon boy, in Bossy, steering.
As the hoop was being interviewed post-race, it was cut short by some very, very loud and happy personal congrats hurled at the wide-smiling rider. Have a guess who from.
“Every time I put these colours on it’s like a suit of armour. I love it,” claimed Bossy.
“It’s all tempo related for this horse. He has a lot of finishing power as he showed today but he has to have things go his own way.”
Trent Edmonds agreed, and added, “you put a rider like Glen on, get good speed early, and today he had a very light weight, well you finally get to see just how good this little horse is.
“That was a powerful win.”
John Singleton, who bred the horse and who has been a great friend of Raudonikus for 50 years, is also in the ownership.
The horse has now won five races from 16 starts and $181,000.
