Fiorente has led home a one-two finish for the past two Melbourne Cup winners to claim the Group One Australian Cup at Flemington.
Forced to make his run from the back of the field, Fiorente, last year’s Melbourne Cup winner, cemented his rise as an Australian weight-for-age star with a half-length win on Saturday.
The 2012 Melbourne Cup hero Green Moon tried desperately to hold off Fiorente before claiming second with Foreteller producing a resolute finish for the minor placing, a short-neck away.
Fiorente dominated betting as the $1.95 favourite.
Cox Plate and Australian Guineas winner Shamus Award weakened out of the race after leading.
“(Fiorente) really stamped his authority and it’s just great to be part of his journey,” winning jockey Damien Oliver said.
