Far Too Easy is on track for his date with the $2 million Kosciuszko

Far Too Easy’s performance at the Gold Coast on Saturday ticked three huge boxes.

Firstly, he gave his connections a big thumbs-up by showing he was well and truly over his recent health hiccups. Secondly, it announced in no uncertain terms he was perfectly on track for his date with the $2 million Kosciuszko and thirdly it put his rivals on notice that he could be a big player in that race on Everest Day at Randwick on October 15.

Trainer David McColm was understandably very pleased with the 3.30 length demolition job Far Too Easy did on his rivals … and that, with the son of All Too Hard producing his winning effort on what was supposedly and inferior part of the track with his characteristic low, forward-pushing head carriage franking his own particular racing action.

But, Far Too Easy was close to not being given the green light to face the starter.

“It’s been a pressure-cooker at home for us,” offered McColm. “We’ve had a couple of little hiccups with him.

“He got a bit of a skin allergy about ten days ago. We’ve been battling that … and he had a bit of a blood disorder on Tuesday (last week), but it came good by Thursday.

“And then when we got to the Gold Coast, it was a heavy track. We were nearly going to scratch … but, anyway, things worked in our favour, so we got away with it.”

In essence, the win on a heavy track was another box ticked.

“It does tick another box,” said McColm, “because, if it is wet in Sydney (for the Kosciuszko) I won’t be as worried as I might have been … let’s put it that way.”

McColm, who is based in Murwillumbah, has taken Far Too Easy to Sydney once before, when he finished fourth in the Country Championship Final in April, and he will be adopting much the same approach this time around.

“I don’t change anything with this horse because we are going to the Kosciuszko. The recipe last season was perfect, and we’ve continued in the vein.”

And as for who will ride Far Too Easy on the big day?

“We haven’t made any decision on that as yet,” answered McColm. “We do have quite a few jockeys who want to ride the horse, but we have still got to make a decision on that.”

Far Too Easy has won six of his eleven starts … which includes a victory in the Winning Rupert Plate at Doomben … and he also has notable place results, such as a second place to Me Me Legard in the Gold Edition and a fourth place behind King Of Sparta in the Magic Millions Three-Year-Old Guineas, to his credit.
