Champion trainer Chris Waller is confident Democracy Manifest is the right horse to win him a second Swan Draught-Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Chris Waller won the race in 2015 with Good Project, who was ridden to victory by Craig Williams.

He also won the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic, now known as the Northerly Stakes, in 2014 with Moriarty.

Democracy Manifest enters this week’s $1.5 million event off the back of an impressive third to Lindermann in the Group 3 Craven Plate (1800m) at Randwick.

Waller said he was pleased with how the six-year-old had settled into his new surroundings.

“He’s very well,” Waller told TABradio.

“It’s a long journey and a different climate.

“His appetite is good, and his general demeanour is perfect.

“That’s all I can ask.”

Democracy Manifest scored the biggest win of his career earlier this year in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

He was then beaten less than three lengths by Celestial Legend in the Doncaster (1600m) at the end of his last campaign.

Prior to the Craven Plate, the six-year-old put in three competitive performances at Group level in Sydney, including the Epsom Handicap.

Waller said his form warranted another shot at the top level.

“He came up a little bit short in the second half of the spring over here, where it’s mainly Weight-For-Age races,” he said.

“He’s been at this level for 12 months.

“He ran fifth in the Epsom last year and was unlucky.

“He’s won a Group 2 since.

“He hasn’t had a lot of luck go his way and mainly barrier draws have been the cause of that.

“He’s a decent horse.”

Democracy Manifest, to be ridden by Mark Zahra, is on the third line of betting with TABtouch for the Railway Stakes at $8 with online betting sites.

Light Infantry Man, to be ridden by James McDonald, is the $5.50 favourite, while Zipaway is the leading local chance at $6 with wagering apps.
