Tom Dabernig will start with a small team at Warrnambool

After 25 years with Lindsay Park, Tom Dabernig will start with a small team at Warrnambool as he awaits on-course stabling to be finished.

Having departed Lindsay Park, Tom Dabernig will commence his new training operation in Warrnambool early next month.

While awaiting a 48-box stabling complex to be completed on-course, Dabernig will have access to 11 boxes at the property of Matthew Williams.

Dabernig said without Williams’ support, his new venture would have taken longer to get started.

He said it had been a desire to train at the beach and setting up a base at Warrnambool gives him that opportunity.

“My late grandfather Colin Hayes started his career training on the beach at Semaphore in Adelaide and it has always been in the back of my mind to have horses trained at the beach,” Dabernig said.

“Warrnambool offers a great environment to train horses.

“In my view, the key elements for training are getting horses fit, keeping them sound and helping with their recovery.

“Warrnambool has all those natural attributes to be successful.”

Dabernig thanked all the owners who have contacted him to offer their support along with Matthew and Ultra Williams for supplying the boxes and Warrnambool Racing Club chairman Nick Rule and chief executive Tom O’Connor for welcoming his family into Warrnambool.

“With over 25 years with the Lindsay Park dynasty, commencing under the mentoring of my late grandfather Colin Hayes and later his son David Hayes, I offer my gratitude and thanks for everything they have done to support me over the years,” Dabernig said.

“I would also like to congratulate JD Hayes on his elevation into the training partnership with his older brother Ben Hayes and wish them every success for the future.”
