In the absence of John Allen, jockey Jamie Mott was presented with the opportunity to partner with My Oberon for the forthcoming Cox Plate.
The current odds of $61 with online bookmakers for My Oberon do not align with Mott’s assessment of the horse’s capabilities.
My Oberon’s recent performance in the King Charles III Stakes, securing third place behind Fangirl and Mr Brightside, has convinced Mott that the bookmakers are undervaluing his potential.
“Correct, exactly,” affirmed Mott, underscoring the underestimated odds of My Oberon.
Mott anticipates an auspicious race setup and notes that My Oberon’s starting position should facilitate an efficient and advantageous run.
Despite not having raced beyond 1800 meters since arriving in Australia, My Oberon notably clinched fourth place in the 2004-meter G1 Prince Of Wales Stakes under the stewardship of UK-based trainer William Haggas.
Currently trained by Annabel Neasham, whose stable boasts an impressive 22 percent strike rate in races over 2000 meters, My Oberon is positioned for success.
Even if the Cox Plate outcome doesn’t favour My Oberon, Jamie Mott remains eager to sustain his association with Neasham’s burgeoning Victorian stable, acknowledging her prowess as a trainer.
Furthermore, Mott will stand in for Allen aboard Neasham’s Fancy Man in the G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup, while Damian Lane will deputize for Jamie Kah on stable star Zaaki in the Cox Plate.
