Coolmore has outbid several major studs to secure Golden Slipper winner Guest House in a deal believed to be worth around $30 million.
Interest in the colt surged following his dominant performance in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, with a competitive bidding battle emerging in the days after the world’s richest juvenile race.
Coolmore principal Tom Magnier confirmed the acquisition was finalised on Thursday.
“Guest House is a horse that we have been watching closely as he is by our stallion, Home Affairs,” Magnier said.
“We took careful note of his very good third in the Blue Diamond and then he came out and won the Golden Slipper in very impressive fashion.
“He’s a very good looking horse and Golden Slippers winners are very successful in Australia.”
Guest House is expected to eventually join Coolmore’s elite stallion roster alongside fellow Golden Slipper winners Shinzo and Pierro, as well as his sire Home Affairs.
Magnier indicated the colt will now head for a spell before returning as a three-year-old, remaining with trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr and his current ownership group.
Coolmore has also bolstered its breeding ranks with the recent acquisition of leading New Zealand sire Super Seth, part of a broader strategy following the loss of champion stallions So You Think (NZ), Wootton Bassett (GB) and Fastnet Rock over the past year.
“We are rebuilding the ‘footy’ team, you could say,” Magnier said.
“The reception we have had for Super Seth has been amazing, everyone loves him, and Guest House’s Golden Slipper is a sensational advertisement for his sire, Home Affairs, on the eve of the Easter Yearling Sale [March 29-30].
“As for Guest House, he’s exactly the type of colt we strike to stand at Coolmore – a Golden Slipper winner by a brilliant young sire, with the speed and physique to make a top-class stallion.”
