Racing fans will be thrilled to hear that Champion Hong Kong-based Aussie jockey Zac Purton is set to ride two classy Victorian gallopers when they make their way to Sydney for Day One of The Championships.
Last Saturday’s All-Star Mile winner, Mr Brightside, is set to defend his title in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile, while Giga Kick will contest the G1 T.J. Smith Stakes.
Purton made a triumphant return to Australia earlier this month, taking out the G1 Canterbury Stakes on Artorius and then winning the G1 Randwick Guineas on Communist.
The superstar rider’s G1 double has spurred speculation about a permanent return to Australia, with Purton admitting that he would like to travel abroad more frequently now that COVID restrictions in Hong Kong have eased.
Purton is aiming for his third Doncaster Mile win on April 1, following his last win in the race on Sacred Falls, the most recent horse to record back-to-back Doncaster Mile victories.
Mr Brightside has been allocated 55.5kg for this year’s Doncaster Mile, and Giga Kick is the favourite for the T.J. Smith Stakes at $4 with betr. It’s sure to be an exciting day of racing, and you won’t want to miss it!
