Imported stayer Caravan Rolls On will remain in Australia and join the team of Danny O’Brien after scoring a convincing win in the Sandown Cup at Caulfield.

Caravan Rolls On, who is owned by Qatar Bloodstock headed by Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, made easy work of Saturday’s Listed 3200m event in his final start for trainer Peter Chappel-Hyam.

The Sydney Cup is a likely autumn target for the lightly raced stayer.

“He will now stay on in Australia and join Danny O’Brien. Hopefully he can have a nice autumn here and who knows, he might end up at Flemington (in a Melbourne Cup) next year,” Geoffrey Faber, representing the owner, said.

Caravan Rolls On powered home from a long way back for third in a 2800m race on Melbourne Cup day in his first Australian start and was sent out a clear-cut favourite at $2.25.

Craig Williams had the six-year-old travelling sweetly in fifth on the fence until he had his mount poised to strike outside the leader.

Williams held him together until the 200m mark before letting the entire sprint clear to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Like A Carousel ($12) with another length to Crafty Cruiser ($16) third.

“It was the right race for him,” Williams said.

“He put the writing on the wall in his first race in Australia in the 2800-metre race on Cup day.

“He had the right run today and won like he probably should have, to be fair.”

The victory was another success in Australia for Sheikh Fahad who has won a Melbourne Cup (2011), Caulfield Cup (2012) and Geelong Cup (2011) with Dunaden.

Side Glance also won the Group One Mackinnon Stakes for him at Flemington earlier this month.
