Trainer Grahame Begg has declared exciting filly Biologics a spring prospect after she delivered an eye-catching last-to-first win on debut at Pakenham.
A $700,000 buy at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Dean Hawthorne on behalf of Jonathan Munz, the daughter of I Am Invincible unleashed a powerful finish down the centre of the track to score convincingly.
“She wasn’t really gunned up to win tonight,” Begg said.
“She had a couple of little soft jumpouts and we decided to bring her here to get on the big track, on a good surface, and to be able to ride her where she was going to be comfortable.”
Begg, known for taking a patient approach with his juveniles, indicated Biologics would now be spelled with an eye on longer races as a three-year-old in the spring.
“She’ll go for a break now and get ready for something in the spring,” Begg said.
Biologics is out of Fontein Ruby, a six-time winner who earned over $1 million in stakes and claimed the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington during her classic season. She is the sixth foal of the Turffontein mare.
The family also boasts strong black-type credentials with Group 2 winner Parure, WFA campaigner Fields Of Omagh, New Zealand Group 1 winner The Mitigator, and Group 2 winner Infinite Grace all among her relatives.
