Ben Currie will have his biggest city racing attack at Doomben

Rejuvenated gelding Boomwaa and rising star Maybe Even You head trainer Ben Currie biggest yet attack on city racing at Doomben.

For the first time Currie can remember he will have more runners at Doomben on Saturday than at his home track meeting in Toowoomba.

Currie, 26, is well on his way to training 100 winners for a season for a second time after reaching 103-1/2 in Queensland in 2016/17 to win the state title.

He appears certain to go much better this season as he is already on 89 winners after seven months.

But even more pleasing for Currie has been his move up the Brisbane trainers’ premiership ladder.

“To have had 20 city winners already and to be around the top five trainers has been very pleasing,” Currie said.

“To have a strong hand each Saturday in Brisbane was our aim at the start of the season.

“There is a way to go just yet but we are getting there.”

He will have seven runners in Brisbane and five in Toowoomba on Saturday.

“It means we are starting to get the right balance with plenty of city class horses,” Currie said.

“We have been lucky enough to get some tried horses from the south who have fired here.

“But we are building up our young stock. We got four nice yearlings from the recent Inglis sales and after all the sales the total will be around 10.”

Boomwaa, who was a Group winning two-year-old in Melbourne before a stint in Darwin, will take on open company at Doomben over 1100m after Currie scratched him from a benchmark race..

He has pleased Currie in five starts for him with the latest a second at Doomben in an open 1200m-handicap.

“I’m not sure he is a genuine wet track horse and the meeting was called off after his race,” Currie said.

“Maybe Even You has won her past two starts in town in good fashion and is starting to get out to her right distance.”

Maybe Even You runs over 2030m after two wins over 1660 and 1600m.
