Beach outings have been added to the regime of popular galloper Rangirangdoo to help break the routine of stable life.
Trainer Chris Waller said he was trying different things with Rangirangdoo and some of his other Group One winning stablemates to try to mix up their training.
Rangirangdoo is scheduled to step out for the first time as an eight-year-old at Warwick Farm on Saturday in either the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) or the Group Three Tramway Handicap (1400m).
“He will be nominated for both races,” Waller said.
“I’ll look at the races and what weight he gets in the Tramway.
“He is going well and he has been going to the beach.
“He works in the morning and then gets on a truck and goes to Botany and really enjoys it.
“I’m probably a bit softer on these older horses too.”
Rangirangdoo’s nine-year-old stablemate Danleigh is also in the frame for the Chelmsford following his first-up third behind Pinwheel in the Warwick Stakes.
Shoot Out, a mere six-year-old, will also be entered for the Warwick Farm meeting but Waller says he may give him another barrier trial before he resumes.
While Waller is trying to build longevity in his horses, he is also looking to the younger generation in his stable with Jade Marauder to run in the Furious Stakes (1400m) for three-year-olds.
A Group Three winner of the Sweet Embrace Stakes at two, Jade Marauder resumed with an unlucky fifth in the Silver Shadow Stakes won by explosive filly Nechita.
After being disappointed for a run on two occasions in the Silver Shadow, Jade Marauder finished 2-1/2 lengths from the winner who is now favourite for the $1 million Golden Rose on September 15.
“I think she could be the sleeper,” Waller said.
“The next race will tell the story of where we go next.”
The Furious Stakes is the second leg of the four-race Princess Series which covers the distance range from the 1200 metres of the Silver Shadow to the 1600 of the Group One Flight Stakes on October 6.
Champagne Stakes placegetter Dear Demi, third in the Silver Shadow, will be among Jade Marauder’s opposition on Saturday as will New Zealander Pussy Willow.
