Matthew Hoysted will take over the stable he shared with Steven O'Dea in the new season

The training partnership of Brisbane-based Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted is set to be dissolved at the conclusion of the racing season.

Over the past six months, O’Dea has gradually shifted away from the day-to-day running of the stable to concentrate on his bloodstock interests with Hoysted taking on a greater role.

The dissolving of the partnership will see O’Dea Hoysted Racing rebranded Matt Hoysted Racing.

O’Dea will still be a major contributor to the new stable via the yearling sales, concentrating on a role as a bloodstock agent and together with the stable’s biggest client, Proven Thoroughbreds, will remain committed to sourcing the next bunch of horses for Hoysted.

Commencing training in Townsville before becoming one of Brisbane’s leading trainers, O’Dea said it was the right time for a change of lifestyle after 19 years as a trainer.

“I’m extremely proud of what Matt and I have been able to achieve together, with the obvious highlight being our first Group 1 when Uncommon James won the Oakleigh Plate last year,” O’Dea said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“We have a great team behind us that will ensure the stable has continued success.”

Hoysted’s association with the stable dates back to 2016, during which time he served as assistant trainer for five years before becoming co-trainer in 2020.

O’Dea and Hoysted have two runners at Doomben on Saturday and are chasing Black Type success in Melbourne with Party For Two in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
