Star rider Jason Collett’s little sister Alysha Collett can win her first Gr 1 race in Australia when she mounts ARAMAYO (Poet’s Voice – Peruvian) in the $1.5million Epsom this afternoon at Randwick.
She backs up in the very next race the $750k Gr 1 Metrop over 2400m with CHARM’S STAR (Per Incanto – Anniesstar) who looks very hard to beat also.
And just seeing her name on these mounts is rather mind-blowing when considering she’s been plying her trade in the NSW bush of late.
But it’s there that she has made her mark.
A treble at Orange on a 7-race card last week has been just one highlight of late. Already she’s ridden 27 winners this season and that is amazing. She is 2nd in all of NSW regarding winners.
That consistency, riding winner after winner, has drawn her to the city and the top trainers want her on. Being under 50kg helps too.
“Aramayo looks a nice little ride and I’ve spoken to Jason (who has ridden him to placings recently) about him. He’s gone back in his races this time up because of the bad draws but I’ll talk to Chris to see if we can sit a bit closer. He has a really beautiful barrier this time.
“And Charm’s Star, well, she’s an interesting ride. She’s placed this trip. Chris (Waller) knows what he’s doing and he’s targeted this race for her.
“Who knows what will happen with this super lightweight. If she’s a genuine 2 – 4 horse then she has a genuine chance.”
Collett rides the bolder CHILL (Vancouver – Terrestria) in the $750k Gr 1 Flight Stakes as well.
“Hopefully my mounts can do something today and I can relocate to the city full time,” she said on radio this morning.
Would be a welcome addition to the Sydney riding ranks.
