Caulfield Guineas favourite Aft Cabin has been ruled out of the stallion making race for three-year-olds after a bleeding attack following trackwork.
Godolphin Australia Managing Director Vix Cox delivered the news on Saturday which requires Aft Cabin to stand out of racing for a mandatory three months.
Aft Cabin had been favourite for next Saturday’s 1600m contest but has been replaced at the top of the market by his James Cummings-trained stablemate Golden Mile at $4 with TAB.
“It is unfortunate news for the team and the vast array of supporters, but unfortunately these things happen,” Cox told racing.com.
“The horse will be fine, and we look forward to getting him back early in the New Year.
“There is a lot of nice races we’d like to line him up in, the Randwick Guineas, the Australian Guineas are obvious targets, and we’d like to tick that Group 1 Mile box with him.
“The rules of racing are that you have to put them out, but the horse’s welfare is first and foremost as it is in all trainers’ yards.”
Aft Cabin had won two of his four starts and was favourite for the 2022 Caulfield Guineas on the strength of his soft 3-½ length win in the Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 17.
