Can you imagine the joy that will flow through the stables of Port Macquarie based trainer Annette Lee if she lands a winner at Grafton today?
It’ll be huge…..
Everyone gets remarkably happy when they land a winner. That’s a given – jocks, owners and trainers.
Irrespective of how many times you’ve tasted it before. Joy from winning – priceless.
Well, Annette’s will be even bigger. She saddles a horse at Grafton today named SECRET LAGO (Encosta de Lago-Secret Relations) which she co-owns.
The big old friendly gelding is 6 years old. And to be fair, he does have place claims this afternoon.
But, and here’s where joy is palpable for this stable, Secret Lago has raced 60 times thus far and has never won a race.
Adding to that, Annette’s last 60 runners, have also not won a race.
She has a small team of three horses in work: the friends of Secret Lago are SUNDAY SPECIAL (Big Brown-Suspended Time) who has raced 48 times and has never won a race. The other stablemate is GLAM TIME (Big Brown-Star Attire). She’s raced 14 times and has never even placed. In fact, hasn’t beaten a runner home at her past two runs and the stewards ordered a ban on her as she suffered from cardiac arrhythmia last start.
So you get the picture. This battling barn could do with a win, or even just some luck today.
Secret Lago goes around in race 2 at 10 past 2. It’s an 1106m maiden and apprentice Yvette Lewis has the mount.
Last start, at $101, he made good ground to finish 5th in a very similar race beaten just on 2 lengths.
Currently, Palmerbet has him rated a $41 chance after firming in following consistent wagering on him this morning from an opening quote of around $81.
In a world where the rich just keep getting richer, it would be nice and fair and even a tad appropriate if Annette Lee’s maiden got among some of the cash today.
I’ll be cheering. Good luck team Lee.
