$10,000 online buy Sheza Alibi wins G3 at Flemington

It was a big win at Flemington but they would have been cheering as loudly in North Queensland as the three-year-old filly Sheza Alibi proved too strong for her opposition in the Group 3 TAB Vanity.

The daughter of Saxon Warrior who was a $10,000 Inglis Digital purchase was having just her second start for the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman training partnership and, on the back of her bold first-up showing where she finished a close-up third behind the very smart Tentyris in the Listed Gothic Stakes, Sheza Alibi started as a clear favourite at $2.20.

(Four races after Sheza Alibi’s win, Tentyris, who had previously won the Group 2 Todman and finished second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond, triumphed in the Group 1 Coolmore putting in a tremendous winning performance).

Before coming into the Moody / Coleman yard, Sheza Alibi was trained by Rockhampton based trainer Kris Hansen, who guided the filly to two wins and two second places from the four races she contested under his care … one of those seconds being behind the Chris Waller trained Autumn Boy, who would go on to win the Caulfield Guineas three-and-a-half months later.

So, Sheza Alibi moved to justifiably test the water down south with a change of stables … and, hence, the cheer heard from Rockhampton.

“She laid the foundation at Caulfield (in the Gothic Stakes over 1200m),” said Moody. “She looked well placed here over 1400m.

“Congratulations to Freddie Noffke, the owner, and the Hansen team up in Rockhampton,” continued Moody. “They had this filly in the early days and she’s gone through Townsville and Rockhampton and places like that … so, to see her come here and perform on Derby day it’s a big congratulations to all involved … including my team at home.

“It was a well-deserved victory today.”
