What would Aussie stewards do if this happened?
At Aqueduct in New York today, jockey Jose Lezcana (in the light blue and white, number 4) ranged up three wide coming to the bend.
He had the horses on his inside completely covered. His mount was cantering, head on chest and he even looked across at them and started talking to them. Probably trash-talking.
He didn’t let his mount go at this point, just stayed there cruising being cocky.
Then out of nowhere to his right a horse he did not see came charging. That horse had a full head of steam up and was charging. Momentum swept him past Lezcana.
Lezcana was left flat-footed and try as he may his mount, who should have kicked clear on the home turn, couldn’t quite come back and catch the leader.
Poor punters.
Should the jock get time?
