Retired jockey and media performer Libby Hopwood has caused quite a stir over the last 24-48 hours, with the 36 year old launching and promoting her OnlyFans via Twitter, under the name ‘Foxy.Miss’.
Hopwood was good enough to give up some time to chat to JustHorseRacing and explain the reasons behind why she is heading in this direction.
First of all Libby, thanks for your time in doing this. Safe to say you’ve well and truly lit up Twitter the last 24 hours. How has it been received?
It’s been interesting to see who has actually reached out to me to chat about it and who hasn’t. Most people know me well and we’re having a laugh but there’s definitely an element of judgement from some less open-minded people. Unfortunately you’re bound to get that with anything you do.
For those who don’t you know, what is your background in racing?
I started in racing as a stable hand while I was earning money to go to UNI for Archaeology. One day my boss Michael O Leary was down a track rider and I offered to help out and he ended up offering me an apprenticeship. I decided I could come out of the next 4 years with a career and money in the bank or in debt with a degree. I chose the horses.
I rode for several years but unfortunately had a nasty fall and due to injuries suffered from that, I was forced into retirement and since then, I have had jobs here and there, including a five year period at Sky Racing as a form analyst/presenter.
After your departure from Sky Racing, was it tough finding work in racing, whether it be with the animal itself or the media side of things?
I was lucky enough to already have a business in place working with horses while I was at Sky. I don’t like having all my eggs in the same basket and after researching and helping my own horse with PEMF I launched a business doing that and continue to do so each day.
OnlyFans…a platform very rarely used for horse racing. Why have you gone down that path?
It’s obviously risqué because of the connotations connected to the platform but at it’s very core, it’s social media you can monetise and frankly it seems crazy to me that other people aren’t utilising it. Your platform is only what you choose to make it.
You have been in a relationship for a while with your partner, Ben. Was it an easy or tough discussion to have?
It was actually very easy. Our relationship is built on open and honest communication and we talk about absolutely everything. It’s been an ongoing discussion as we get further into it to make sure we are both still happy with the content and our limits and he’s an active part in helping me create my OnlyFans.
You have many friends in the racing industry. What have they said about it?
They all think it’s great. Anyone that actually knows me as a person isn’t going to change their opinions of me because I posted a few racey pics. It’s been a surprise sure, but not too left of field for me.
What do you hope to achieve out of this?
I actually don’t know. It started just as a bit of an experiment but now I’m dreaming of hosting a racing style channel on OnlyFans where I get to interview people and see the behind the scenes of racing. I guess time will tell. It’s already garnered more interest then I could possibly imagine.
There is a real stigma still attached with OnlyFans/Sex Work. Is this a way do you think of trying to break that stigma? Do you consider what you are doing as sex work or more of a tipping service?
I like to think that the way I present myself doesn’t have to sit within the bounds of social descriptors and I don’t allow social expectations to shape my decisions. People may associate what I am doing with their own stigmas, but for me it’s just good fun and a new way to show the world a little more about myself.
