Pakenham too wet

Pakenham race meeting has abandoned after a Racing Victoria stewards inspection this afternoon determined that the track was unsuitable for racing due to the impacts of heavy rain over the past 24 hours.

“The inspection determined that the track was unsafe for racing after the heavy rainfall received over the past 24 hours left significant surface water and no opportunity for the surface to dry before the meeting,” Racing Victoria Operations Manager, Paul Bloodworth, said.

“Due to pending racing commitments and the impact of weather on other tracks, there was no suitable transfer venue within a reasonable distance from Pakenham to accommodate the three jumps races on the card.

“We canvassed the jumping trainers on the option of converting the jumps races to highweights to open up the number of transfer options, including Geelong Synthetic, however many indicated that they would scratch and reserve their horse for a future jumps meeting.

“We’re allowing affected horses to enter for Friday and Saturday’s country meetings as an original entry up until 10am tomorrow and up until 4pm tomorrow for Saturday’s Flemington meeting as an extended entry given weights have already been released.
“As is standard practice, we will also look to divide races where necessary over the coming weeks to assist those horses that have been impacted.”
