The question has been asked whether or not one of the leading contenders in this years Melbourne Cup should actually be starting in the race.
The Aidan O’Brien trained Il Paradiso is becoming a bit of a controversial runner in the 2019 Melbourne Cup with the lightly raced galloper having only earned just over $100,000 but sitting 13th in the order of entry.
Il Paradiso has raced eight times having won twice once to break his maiden and another in a weak handicap albeit by a big margin.
A third placed finish in the Lonsdale Cup elevated the horse in the Melbourne Cup Field but it was only a four horse race.
Despite the question mark over whether he should be in the race the market is keeping him very safe at odds of $13 so based on bookmakers expectations of the horse he is deserving of his spot but with some experienced and proven stayers missing out on a spot the question has to be asked.
