Leading apprentice Jake Noonan will make his much-awaited comeback to race riding at Mornington on Wednesday week.
Noonan hasn’t ridden in a race since his mount Safe fell in a 1200-metre event at Flemington on May 7.
He suffered severe concussion and spent two weeks in hospital before continuing his recovery in a rehabilitation centre.
Mornington trainer Tony Noonan said his son had been riding trackwork and would be riding in trials on Thursday and the following Monday at Cranbourne.
“All going well he’ll ride at the Mornington meeting on the Wednesday week,” Noonan said.
“Looking forward to it.”
Noonan easily won last season’s Melbourne apprentices’ premiership with 37 wins and finished equal fifth with Damien Oliver in the jockeys’ title despite missing almost three months of the season.
The midweek Mornington fixture is a Melbourne Racing Club meeting.
