Disqualified jockey Blake Shinn has been cleared to ride trackwork from Friday this week in preparation for a return to race riding.
The winner of the 2008 Melbourne Cup on Viewed, Shinn is serving a 15 month penalty for betting offences.
His original ban prevented all forms of riding until November 26 but he successfully applied to Racing NSW on Tuesday to return trackwork and trials earlier.
Shinn, whose disqualification coincided with his recovery from a broken leg sustained at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day last year, told the licensing committee he needed to get fit before he started riding in races from mid-December.
He can start riding in barrier trials from November 11.
Shinn was disqualified for 15 months last November for betting on races including those in which he rode.
His appeal against the ban was dismissed in May but he had three months shaved off by the Racing NSW appeals panel.
