Mrs Gardenia has been heavily backed to win todays Ladies Day Vase

Darren Weir has a strong contingent of fillies and mares in his stable and it’s one of his mares that has been the most popular to take out the Ladies Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield this Wednesday.

Mrs Gardenia has really turned her career around the past 12 months, going from a benchmark horse to a blacktype class mare and she’s been well supported for this afternoon. She opened $6 and did get down to as low as $4.40 before settling at $4.60.

I Am A Star is the favourite but has been easy, out to $3.90 from $3.10, with punters thinking she may have to do work from the tricky draw. Oregon’s Day ($3.50-$3.60-$3.40) has been solid since markets opened Wednesday.
