Country Cup racing continues this Friday, with the Walcha Cup (1440m) attracting a full field.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Walcha Cup.
2025 Walcha Cup Runner Preview:
1. Wild Chap: Just battled in the Inverell Cup last time and off that effort, I don’t think he’s good enough to threaten these. He can go through to the keeper.
2. Full Press: Dry track looks ideal for him. Found shifty ground in the Ballina Cup and wasn’t 100% happy I thought behind Lord Of Biscay. Firmer footing here, hard fit, he has to be respected despite the tricky gate.
3. Ring Ahoy: Hasn’t raced since the Armidale Cup when finsihing best to score over 1900m and was impressive. First up here…he may need the run, but if they overdo it in front, he’ll be one of the strongest at the end.
4. Macleay: Like him back in trp after racing over the mile in recent runs where he has been solid each time but for mine, has just failed to run the trip out. Back in trip and a kind map, he’s right in the mix.
5. Royal Charge: Similar to Macleay in that coming back to 1400m from 1600m is a big tick, but just not sure he’s going well enough and has an awful gate to contend with.
6. Shamedy: He is city class when at his best and is flying since joining Todd Payne. Arrogant win at Deepwater last time, lands in a plum spot and with the claim too…gee she rates highly.
7. Subuki: He’s racing really well at the moment. Just finding it hard to win. He tried his guts out at Tamworth over the mile but just couldn’t quite get the win. Should be strong late…just not sure I could back him to win.
8. Buffet Master: Gets the Blinkers back on but thought he was just fair at Tamworth last time and I can’t entertain him as a winning threat.
9. Leica Model: Let down with purpose to win at Inverell over the mile last time, but I will say he beat nothing. Harder here, likely spots them a start…should be strong late, but may concede too much start.
10. Red Beryl: He has contested the previous two editions of the race and has been pretty good each time. Solid enough effort at Tamworth last start but just think he gets too far back and won’t be a winning threat.
11. Roussos: Plain at Tamworth last start and will struggle against this lot.
12. Casirina: This is my throw at the stumps in the race. He resumed at Port Macquarie when back, wide, keen in the run and was never a factor. That was over 1100m and the rise to 1400m here is ideal. Sits off a good speed, jockey upgrade, strong late…worthy of a speck.
13. Little Prophet (First Emergency): Loved his win at Armidale last time but not here.
14. Wilderness Star (Second Emergency): Did too much work at Port Macquarie last time but this is harder.
15. Toulon Factor (Third Emergency): Forgive at Armidale behind Little Prophet after doing work in the run but can’t see him threatening.
2025 Walcha Cup $100 Betting Strategy:
$50 Win on Shamedy, $10 Win/$40 Place Casirina.

2025 Walcha Cup Speed Map
I can’t see a designated leader, but I can see a few go forward horses. Wild Chap does look the one that I think will lead. Buffet Buster is drawn out and can press forward. Shamedy has a good gate and should lob into a beaut spot.
