Tuncurry Saturday January 17
Heat 1 – Open 1000m (1.01.65)
Former Queenslander Dubalene had her first trial for Colt Prosser and gee she looked well. Jogged in behind them, beaten under two lengths, but could have won if Rolls let her go. I think with the right placement, she’s going to win races. Nice horse for the area.
Cranbourne Monday January 19
Heat 2 – 3YO 800m (46.29)
I think Educated is a little rocket for Ciaron Maher. Impressive debut win at Tatura and was spelled with the Autumn in mind. Love the way she quickened here when asked and ran good time in doing so. If she can stretch to 1200m, there are a stack of options for her. But 1000m/1100m at the moment looks the sweet spot.
Warwick Farm Thursday January 22
Heat 3 – Open 1200m (1.14.63)
Not sure what the plans are with Piggyback, but gee she looks to be humming. Loved the way she moved here, sitting back under an absolute hold from Nash, but the final 50m/through the line when getting clear air, she attacked the line. Reckon a race like the Epona on Slipper Day would be perfect for her.
Heat 4 – Open 1200m (1.13.01)
If there is a sneaky left field for the Oaks in Sydney, I reckon it could be Mountain Queen. She closed really nicely in this trial when fourth. Two trials under the belt now, she’s ready to return to the races. A maiden win is there for sure, and I think if she keeps progressing, she could be a sleeper for the Oaks.
Heat 7 – Open 801m (47.79)
Maybe Moet is flying for Chris Waller. Was under an absolute hold in this trial and made the Group I performed Johnny Rocker look pretty ordinary. Got plenty of upside/progression to come, she’s a coming first up winner with the right placement.
Heat 9 – Open 801m (47.35)
Hard not to be impressed by Arriving Home, who hasn’t raced since the 2025 Magic Millions Guineas. Led throughout to win this trial and seemingly had something in hand. Dare say she’ll have another trial before resuming but she is well above average.
