Military Tycoon put in a great run first up at Flemington and is one of three horses highlighted for this week's Pace Report

Racing was run at Flemington on Saturday on a Good 4 and whilst some good performances races down the straight course saw a heavy advantage to being closer to the Grandstand side and up the middle to wider lanes of the straight and the races around the circle saw an advantage to be on speed but did race well overall from 1400m up. Winds throughout the day certainly played a big part on how the races were run and won.

Race 3- Military Tycoon 2nd– (Orange, Black & White checked silks)

Great return from this filly from the Maher yard. She sat on a good speed here and was gathered in late by Jenni The Ninja who had the race fitness and big weight difference, carrying 5.5kgs less with 54kgs on her back.

The sectionals weren’t blistering here but the overall time is solid enough and when looking at quality ratings this ranks right up with the best we saw her from a 2-year-old perspective. Keen to follow her into her next run with added fitness, especially if she can meet her own age and sex at set weights.

This race has rated strongly and expect the form to stand up from this race through the first three.

Race 9- Flying Mikki 2nd– (Blue, Orange Silks)

I might be biased but this horse is racing in great form this prep, putting down another great run. He was in the right part of the track with the winds heavily impacting the straight course but that doesn’t take away from the performance.

This race was run at an average speed to the 600m with the leader Ikasara only posting a benchmark figure of +0.8 lengths against the all average at Flemington on FormKing for 1200m races, which certainly advantaged the winner Fission, who was smothered up and let leash the last bit without having to do any early work. Whereas the second horse had a more sustained speed but couldn’t match the burst of the winner, running the quickest 800m, 600m and 400m of the race but being outsprinted the final 200m.

Flying Mikki was only second up here and should improve again with added race fitness and potentially up in distance to 1400m.

Race 10- Little Cointreau 7th– (Black, Lime Green Spot)

Finishing position of seventh beaten 5.85 lengths probably isn’t what people ordinarily think of when wanting a horse to follow but there was a lot here sectionally speaking to be encouraged by.

He’s run some good sectionals late relative to the race, closing off his final 600m, 400m and 200m as the second quickest of the race only being bettered by runner up Paradise City. The reality being that he was just too far back here to be a player in the finish, but his sectionals indicate this was much a better run than it appears.

I’d be looking at this horse 3rd up maybe up in distance to 1600m, this run was the perfect platform for a elevation next time.
