Ka Ying Rising headlines the final field for The Everest

An elite bunch of sprinters, including the best in the world in Ka Ying Rising, will step out in The Everest (1200m) this Saturday at Randwick.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 The Everest.

2025 The Everest Runner Preview:

1. Ka Ying Rising: Best sprinter in the world off ratings so he does command respect. But the trial needs to be called for what it was: terrible. Terrible from the perspective that he has trialled up much, much better back home, and both Hayes/Purton have confirmed that, saying if that version of KYR turned up on Saturday, he won’t win. From all reports, he has come on big time since that, he can win, he’s a threat…just way too short.

2. Briasa: His big wins have come when he has got the A1 run in transit. He could get the drag over via Overpass, but risks getting caught three wide. For mine, he seems way too short to dive in given the sticky map.

3. Overpass: He’s here to play off his trials. Wound right up but I just don’t think he is up to this level.

4. Jimmysstar: I have been hot on Jimmysstar for this race for several months and I won’t be dropping off. His run in the Premiere was incredible. He actually jumped well but from the wide gate, the handbrake went on and he pretty much went around for another barrier trial. If he can settle closer, like he has done before, or at least be within range 400m out, I think he will run one hell of a race.

5. War Machine: Wind assisted in the Gilgai, found the right lanes, but gee he smashed the clock when winning, and was arrogant in doing so. He is the Private Eye horse. He is better at 1400m, but will be lethal in a fast 1200m and has to be respected.

6. Mazu: He is racing really well at the moment but isn’t up to these.

7. Jedibeel: Good luck to connections but he is a deserved rank outsider.

8. Angel Capital: Race day stuff, he’s right in the mix because he was arrogant first up over 1200m and should have won the Rupert Clarke. But, he looked worse than KYR in that trial last week and even with the kind map…I have to be against him.

9. Joliestar: Joliestar is such a dynamic mare on the fresh side and the several weeks between runs, the set up is perfect for her. She resumed with an absolute bang in The Shorts, sitting three/four wide the trip but made a mess of them and was dominant. Tick over trial last week, she was trucking I thought and appears ready to rock and roll for this.

10. Lady Shenandoah: If you can forgive a good horse for one bad run, gee she is a big price. Things didn’t go to plan at all in the Manikato and even then, I think she hated The Valley. She’ll stalk the hot speed and launch late.

11. Magic Time: Magic Time is a ripping mare who will be strong at the end of 1200m. She comes through the Manikato where I am not sure she was 100% happy around the tight track but she stayed on really well in defeat when third. Proven big time performer at Randwick, she’s a knockout hope.

12. Tempted: Dynamic first up winner then ran third in a brutally run Golden Rose. Three year olds rarely run bad in this race but I am not entirely sold on the three year old crop and I think a hard 1200m is going to see her right out.

2025 The Everest $100 Betting Strategy:

2025 The Everest Speed Map

The three main speed runners are Mazu, Ka Ying Rising and Overpass. KYR showed in the trial that if he wants to lead, he will. But, he could take a sit if the other two decide to go silly and his best wins have come when sitting off speed. Tempted and War Machine look to get ideal runs.
