Vauban is one of the leading contenders in the Tancred Stakes

The second of the majors this Tuesday at Rosehill (after the meeting was moved from Saturday) is the Tancred Stakes (2000m) where all eyes are on Dubai Honour and Vauban.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Tancred Stakes.

2025 Tancred Stakes Speed Map

This looks a very, very tricky map to my eye. Host of imports that could go forward if need be, or Aussie debut, do they go back. Vauban will likely settle off speed…Dubai Honour is drawn well, do they push forward? Land Legend can sit on speed, as can Duke De Sessa.

2025 Tancred Stakes Runner Preview:

1. Dubai Honour: Dubai Honour is back down under after dominating Sydney a couple of years ago. He has been somewhat under a cloud as to whether he will run here, but he’s here and means business. He is an elite animal when right and does love racing on the road. His best efforts in recent times did come when winning the Ranvet and the QEll in 2023. He’ll run a beauty I am sure.

2. Vauban: I have been hot on Vauban for this race for a couple of months and see no reason to drop off. He was an absolute mess in the yard when resuming in the Sky High, even on a normal day, but he gave them a start and a beating off a moderate speed to win and win well. Fitter, 2400m, cooler day, WFA no issue, form is ticked off with Lindermann running super in the Ranvet…good luck beating him.

3. Arapaho: Hard to knock the way he’s racing at present. But, he did have every chance last time behind Vauban and was beaten. 2400m, wet track, hard fit…he ticks a lot of boxes. Just prefer others.

4. Duke De Sessa: He is absolutely humming this guy and his Caulfield Cup win was quite extraordinary. Can make a case to say he wins the Australian Cup Prelude with clear air but it was an ugly watch. 2400m, wet ground, good racing style…has to be respected.

5. Zarir: Former French galloper now with Waller. His best form is solid enough but two back was beaten seven lengths by Dubai Honour. Pass for me.

6. Circle Of Fire: Ridden with intent in the Sky High and battled away well enough. Better set up here, more patient steer…not going as well as he once was though, so he goes through to the keeper.

7. Land Legend: His best is clearly good enough to be a threat, but he has looked like a camel in both runs back. I’ll wait for him to show something.

8. Asterix: Did a good job at Randwick behind Alalcance (won since), and with Blinkers on, I say this will be the Sydney Cup tune up.

9. Zechariah: Had every chance at Randwick and battled away well enough in defeat. Not sure he’s good enough.

10. Waltham: Waltham is the sleeper at odds. He went to the Gold Coast for a kill and he got it two weeks back, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. He has promised to be a good stayer for some time and off a win, he’ll be strong late…he’s in the mix.

11. Warmonger: Warmonger looks to be ticking along beautifully towards the Sydney Cup. He comes through the Randwick Stakes from three weeks back where he got back off the speed but tracked into the race with purpose before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose late to run second to Alalcance, who was dominant last week in the Manion Cup. He’ll love 2400m and is a knockout hope.

12. Kinesiology: Is he any good? He teases but just doesn’t finish races off like a good horse.

13. La Crique: Racing well without winning. If she wins, I am losing on the race.

14. River Of Stars: J Mac rides so with that in mind, she does have to be respected. But for mine, I am happy to watch and her overall form is on the suspect side.
