A strong field has been assembled for the Strathalbyn Cup (2050m) this Sunday in what looks an intriguing contest.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Strathalbyn Cup.
2025 Strathalbyn Cup Runner Preview:
1. Hasta La War: Dare say is using this as a barrier trial for the JRA Plate/Lord Remins/Adelaide Cup path. He is a class stayer vs this lot but for mine, the set up is there to say he will need the run.
2. Wild Imagination: Wild Imagination is in career best form at the moment for David Page. She has won her past two, firstly in the Nhill Cup before a dominant all the way win in the Koroit Cup. Likely lands in front here and with front end control, she’ll take running down.
3. Hasta La Fiorente: Fresh legs, having not raced since Dec 21 at Murray Bridge when down the track behind Seeking Stardom. The rise in trip looks ideal and his best is good enough to be dangerous.
4. Midnight Mass: He hasn’t raced since Dec 14 at Gawler where he tried hard over 2100m but just found one better in Eventually. He has had the mini break, he maps to stalk the speed and with a senior rider on, he’s the one for me.
5. Magnetic Edge: He’s racing in career best form I feel and 2000m should be fine after placing last Saturday at Murray Bridge behind the in form Gotta Go Guru. Trcky draw, but I say he commands respect.
6. Nasho: Arrogant win four weeks ago over 1800m at Morphettville, leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in to win by a space and ran good time. He is the likely leader and will give a stack of cheek.
7. Stormsarrived: He is hit and miss but his best is dangerous. He was game over 1800m at Murray Bridge last time and was good in defeat behind Magnetic Edge. Not sure he wins, but could pinch a first four spot.
8. Montepulciano: Comes back to 2000m after racing over 2500m last time at Morphettville when just fair behind Arugamama. Back in trip I see as a positive and for mine is a knockout hope.
9. Fox Gem: Nunes gave him a 12/10 ride to win a low race at Murray Bridge last time but he is a horse with talent who will be strong late and has upside/scope unlike most here.
10. Rabtat: SCR
11. Sandastan: Sandastan is one for exotics. He was a big price at Murray Bridge last time out and after getting back to near last, he worked home strongly late in the piece behind Fox Gem. He maps to do no work in the run and be effective late.
12. Tembu Boy: Just fair behind Fox Gem at Murray Bridge. Not up to these.
13. Eight On The Dot: Racing well and would have been a good thing in the other 2050m race on the card. Aiming high here though.
14. Grinzinger Allee: Sneaky flying and I reckon will be one to follow once he heads to Alice Springs/Darwin.

There looks to be two speed influences here. Nasho loves to roll on speed and that looks like it will be the case here. The other horse is Wild Imagination, but I dare say with the big weight, they will opt for cover with her. Midnight Mass maps to do no work in the run. Stormsarrived can settle handy too.
